There are easy and correct ways for home buyers to search for Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Suffolk, and Chesapeake Real Estate.
Entering general real estate search terms in Google or Yahoo will get you 100’s of sites to view. You need to be knowledgeable and know how you can make the “system” work for you when searching for homes, condos, or oceanfront real estate.
With the internet, most of the people searching for homes and condos have heard about or experienced the Multiple Listing Service commonly known as the MLS.
The MLS exists for real estate agents to share (coop) homes and condos listed within their specific region. In Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Suffolk, and Chesapeake that MLS provider would be the Real Estate Information Network or REIN.
The real estate agent has access to thousands of homes and condos listed but more importantly to other information that might not be shared in a public view listing. It could be something like “seller motivated”, “bonus to selling agent”, “disclosure” or “possible incentives for the buyer.”
MLS providers are regional real estate entities. There is no National homes and condos MLS.
If you use Craig’s List, you will only get homes and condos manually inputted by REALTORS®, agents, or for sale by owners.

A better use of your time and correct way to search for real estate in Virginia Beach and Chesapeake is using the local agent’s website or blog (like this one). Here you can search the local MLS for homes and condos in all localities, break it down by neighborhood(s), register for automatic listings emailed to you as the real estate listings come on the MLS. Also, by using the REALTOR®’S site you will gain more local information including schools, crime, or shopping locations.
When you have narrowed down your search criteria you are now ready to contact your REALTOR® for VIP treatment
At this point you may want more detailed pictures and home data. If you are in the area then it is easy to arrange for showings of the Virginia Beach and Chesapeake homes or condos you have special interest in.
If you out of town but need special information (neighborhoods, schools, crime, etc) you can contact me and I can go view the home, take pictures inside, out, and the streets of the neighborhood, schools, or whatever you may need.
